Staycation = staying close to home while enjoying the perks and joy of travel.

Travel is life. We LOVE to travel. When you can’t travel as much as you would like (the pandemic, budget, life in general), you get creative in your home town. I don’t know about y’all but I’m guilty of not exploring enough of my own town. Here’s a sample itinerary of a night out on the small town with your love.

Main Street | Broken Arrow, Oklahoma

Before heading out for our night on the town, I pre-ordered from Amazon (2 day Prime shipping!) this Valentine's Day inspired adorable shirt. It doesn't feel quite like date night unless you look the part. Am I right? Here are some outfit options I tried. I went with #3.

Romantic Staycation Itinerary

1. The Flower Shop

Hubs is pretty good about not showing up to a special occasion empty handed. Any small gift or flowers makes me know he thought about me; totally sets the tone for the night. Bypass the big players and check out your local gift or flower store. Generally you can just give them an idea of what you're looking for and they are more than happy to help. The Flower Co. on Main Street is my favorite go-to flower shop for just that reason.

2. Local brewery

Hubs and I like to start a date night with pre-dinner drinks to wind down and enjoy some one-on-one time. The local brewery is the perfect place for it. More unique than a bar and often the opportunity to support a local business which is always a win! For our night out we visited Broken Arrow Brewing Company: a Native American Owned and operated microbrewery and tap room. Their historic and beautiful location is the original Broken Arrow Ice Plant and Light & Power Company building built in 1906.

3. Table for 2

There is bound to be some great dining options in your home town. Any place nearby you that has great ambience is a good choice. The romance will come easy! Some of our favorites are In the Raw and Main Street Tavern.

4. Dessert time!

No romantic date would be complete without some sweets! There are plenty of options in our small town including the Belgium chocolatier and the bakery. We opted for total decadence and a reminder of one of my favorite travel destinations, Italy. Queue the gelato! We stopped by STG Gelateria where their philosophy is simple: they make "Italian foods the way Italians make them" and it shows! They serve authentic Italian gelato fresh and in house daily.

5. Suite for my sweets

After a great night out on the town, don’t go home! Keep the staycation vacation vibe going by checking into your local hotel. Something boutique or historic will provide the most romantic setting. We chose Stoney Creek Hotel for its warm woodsy feel and modern rustic décor. They offer six different lodging styles, ranging from expanded king rooms to family bunk bed suites (which is great when little mama tags along). For the extra romantic touch, opt for their expanded king room which includes a huge whirlpool tub. We stayed in their Cosmo suite.

If you have any more staycation ideas for couples, we’d love to hear them!

*All establishments we visited were practicing their personalized COVID protocols. These specific measures can be found on each individual website.
