When you think about visiting a college town, it can be hard to think about doing things that are not solely focused around the school. In Oklahoma, the major universities are in smaller towns so the schools tend to take over EVERYTHING. If you're looking to take a day trip to Stillwater and looking for something different, you're in the right place.
When you love to travel as much as I do, it’s nice to have friends that share that love Yesterday, my girl Mollie and I made the day trip from Broken Arrow to the home of my alma mater, Stillwater. Here's how we spent our day:
Lunch at Eskimo Joes
Transformer site seeing
Boutique shopping
Snack time
The Botanic Garden
We arrived right around lunch so naturally our first stop was lunch at
They have a huge store with all kinds of cool merchandise. I ended up buying a t-shirt and two hoodies ($88 and change).
(Yes there’s other excellent choices but if you’re going to day trip to Stillwater, Joe’s is a must IMO.) We filled up on burgers and the infamous bacon cheese fries before continuing on to see some sites.
The giant Transformers brought over from Thailand are a must and great photo op. We even scored a cute little bumblebee rock (Wellston Rocks) to re-hide later. You can find both at 2 different G&M Body Shops in town.
After, we checked out the local boutiques and were not disappointed.
Our favorite shop we stumbled across was The Beadery on Main. We both picked up adorable "mama" necklaces for good prices.
We also checked out 405 Mercantile and the Rhinestone Cowgirl in Campus Corner.
After all that shopping, it was snack time! When we wandered into Insomnia Cookies, we both looked over at each other and sighed really loudly in delight because the smell is so intoxicating. I picked up 6 different cookies for $10. Mollie wanted to try the salted caramel which came in deluxe so she got 5 classics and 1 deluxe. We thought it was deluxe because of its flavor. We were wrong. It's deluxe because of its size!
Our last stop was the The Botanic Garden. It's a quirky park with winding trails and themed sections. They had some great kids spots for when I bring little mama next time. We signed in at the mailbox and found our 2nd rock of the day (Journey Rocks). There is an office building on site but it is currently closed to the public. I recommend visiting when the weather is warmer and everything greens up more.
That was our day. If you have more tips to share, we would love to hear from you!
