Family Day Trip to Bentonville, Arkansas

Updated: Feb 24, 2021

Today we made the easy day trip from Broken Arrow to Bentonville, located just across the state line in northwest Arkansas. Total drive time = 4 1/2 hours

Our first stop was the Country Cottage in Locust Grove for lunch. We haven’t been to a buffet post COVID outbreak so we weren’t sure how that would work but it was easy enough. Gloves were provided and required while visiting the buffet. We sampled a little bit of everything and it was all great. There’s a cute little gift shop at the front where we picked up a little something for our 6 year old. We arrived just past noon on a Sunday and got a seat no problem. When we’re leaving though there was a huge wait. The buffet was $12 per adult and $5 for our younger child. Definitely recommend!

After lunch, we continued our drive into Bentonville to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Admission is free but online reservations are recommended to ensure you are able to enter at your arrival time. We booked our spots through the website and were emailed QR codes to scan at the entrance. There is some construction going on but it didn’t interfere with our visit. With only a handful of other visitors, it was a very enjoyable experience. My 6 year old daughter loved all of the modern art. There’s also trails all around we will try next time plus a night time light exhibit that looked worth trying.

In between museum visit times, we took a break at the Pressroom. They have a huge menu but the waitress informed us only a limited food menu was available that consisted of literally 5 items so we only ordered drinks. It was happy hour so our cocktails were only $6 each. The restaurant has some more cool artwork and a great view of the town square.

Appointments for the The Walmart Museum were mandatory and could also be scheduled online. You select your time and then knock on the door at your designated time. The museum is located in the town square behind the Walton’s 5 and dime storefront. We were the only ones in the museum which was super cool. It took us about 45 minutes to go through it. Not recommended for littles with short attention spans as it was a lot of reading.

After, we ordered sweet treats from Spark Café Soda Fountain next door. They have a walk up window as indoor dining is not currently open.
